«Summer In The Sunset» Collection
Chloe Roth
Troubled by the proliferation of what the San Francisco Chronicle terms “gentrification grey,” I created my Outer Sunset series to document the unique architecture and colors of SF's Outer Sunset neighborhood. The series celebrates the historically sherbet-colored seaside row houses in orthographic drawings, watercolors, collages, cross-stitch, and bead embroidery. During long walks through the neighborhood, I mourn the loss of every color, each new house for sale repainted a different shade of grey. So I set out to capture every house in the Sunset, memorializing the playful colors that cut through the mist to bring joy to the perennially foggy neighborhood.
